The Economic Development division is currently offering Certified Fiber Optics courses to help you advance in today’s workforce. Available course options include:

  • Certified Fiber Optics Technician Course – $895.00
  • Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Testing – $795.00
  • Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Splicing – $795.00

Course objectives and 2022 course dates are included below. A maximum of 25 people allowed per course.

Certified Fiber Optics Technician – Program prepares the student to take the Certified Fiber Optic Technical (CFOT) exam given and graded at the end of class. Student will be able to effectively and efficiently install, terminate, and test multiple or single mode fiber optic networks to existing standards.

*Prerequisite – Able to see, identify and manipulate small items and be able to read and speak the English language.

Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Testing and Maintenance Program prepares the student to take the Specialist in Testing and Maintenance Fiber Optics Certification (CFOS/T) exam given at the end of class. Student will be able to effectively and efficiently identify fiber optic network defects and provide quality assurance procedures to minimize or eliminate future network outages.

*Prerequisite – As of January 1, 2015, the student MUST have successfully passed the basic CFOT course within the preceding 12 months or have renewed their Fiber Optics Association (FOA) membership within that timeframe prior to attending the CCFOS/T, CFOS/S, and/or the CFOS/S FOA Specialist courses. Students are encouraged to register for all courses being offered at the individual locations with the understanding that the CFOT is the prerequisite for all other courses and it must be successfully completed first prior to attending any of the other specialist courses.

Certified Fiber Optics Specialist in Splicing Program prepares the student to take the Certified Fiber Optics Specialist/Splicing (CFOS/S) exam that is sanctioned by the Fiber Optics Association (FOA). The exam is given and graded the final day of class.

*Prerequisite – As of January 1, 2015, the student MUST have successfully passed the basic CFOT course within the preceding 12 months or have renewed their Fiber Optics Association (FOA) membership within that timeframe prior to attending the CCFOS/T, CFOS/S, and/or the CFOS/S FOA Specialist courses. Students are encouraged to register for all courses being offered at the individual locations with the understanding that the CFOT is the prerequisite for all other courses and it must be successfully completed first prior to attending any of the other specialist courses.
