Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) and Mercer University recently finalized an agreement that will allow nursing students to seamlessly transfer between the two schools. The agreement, which has been in process since late last year, serves to strengthen the academic bond between the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) and the state’s private universities.
“Southern Regional Technical College is pleased to continue and expand our partnership and collaboration with Mercer University. The offering of our Associate of Science Degree in Nursing and subsequent articulation to Mercer University’s Baccalaureate of Nursing Degree will result in even more options for our graduates to continue their higher education, to further and expand their occupational possibilities and careers, and possibly assist in enrollment increases for Mercer. We are very appreciative of President Underwood, Mercer University, and our many partners at the various public and private higher education institutions,” commented SRTC President Dr. Craig Wentworth.
As outlined by the agreement, students who choose to transfer from a technical college to a senior college to earn a bachelor’s degree should be provided with a smooth curriculum transition that minimizes loss of credit and duplication of coursework. Therefore, the two schools drafted this agreement that will allow any student who has successfully completed the Associate of Science in Nursing at SRTC and to transfer directly into the Bachelor of Nursing program in the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University. Transfer students must complete all of Mercer’s general education requirements that have not been satisfied in the articulation agreement and will only be allowed to transfer courses in which they have earned a letter grade of “C” or better.
“The ASN program is very proud and honored to offer such a great opportunity for our students. This articulation with Mercer provides a chance for our students to expand their leadership and clinical skills outside our service area. Partnerships like this provide our students with expanded career pathways that may not have been previously available to them and work to further develop statewide relationships. I must credit former SRTC Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Annie McElroy for her work on this articulation as she is a distinguished alumnus of Georgia Baptist College of Nursing,” commented SRTC ASN Program Chair Tammy Bryant.
Articulation agreements such as this are becoming increasingly more common between TCSG and USG affiliated schools. For instance, SRTC currently has standing agreements for specified programs with Albany State University, Georgia Military College, Thomas University, and Valdosta State University. Additionally, there is a statewide agreement between TCSG and USG schools for transferability of over 27 general education (core) courses. SRTC offers over 148 degree, diploma, and certificate programs that are designed to get you quickly into your desired career, and 27 general education courses that transfer to the University System of Georgia institutions and 19 private colleges and universities in Georgia. SRTC has instructional sites located in Ashburn, Cairo, Camilla, Moultrie, Thomasville, Tifton, and Sylvester for the convenience of our students. The College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
