For the 2024 spring semester, which begins January 9, 2024, Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) will offer a Cisco Network Specialist program through the Cisco Networking Academy at the SRTC-Bainbridge campus. The Cisco Network Specialist program is a three semester, 12 credit hour technical certificate of credit (TCC) program that teaches students the basics of networking, the configuration and interconnection of switches and routers, switch/router security, and routing protocols.
SRTC Computer Information Systems instructor Benjamin White said he was excited to begin using the Networking Academy curriculum and training tools in his classes, saying, “Students get extensive hands-on experience with actual Cisco devices as well as highly developed web-based coursework and practice environments.”
The program was designed for Computer Information Systems Technology (CIST) students or graduates who are interested in becoming Cisco Certified Network Associates (CCNA). The Cisco Network Specialist program is approved by Cisco System, Inc., and graduates who complete the program will be eligible to sit for Cisco’s CCNA certification exam.
“Cisco is one of the top choices in the information technology (IT) field,” said Adriane Thomas, SRTC’s Dean for Academic Affairs, School of Business. “With students enrolling in this program, they have the opportunity to study and earn their CISCO certification. Cisco Certifications are constantly updated to reflect the evolution of the technology landscape and ensure that certifications match the needs of the IT industry. When students earn and maintain active certification, they’re proving to employers that they have the skills to work on today’s most advanced networks, and as they continue to meet recertification requirements, a lifelong learning mindset is born.”
The Cisco Network Specialist program is one of 7 TCCs offered within SRTC’s Cyber and Related programs under the college’s School of Business umbrella. The college also offers degree and diploma programs for Computer Support Specialist, Cybersecurity, and Networking Specialist. In addition to a standalone program, the Cisco Network Specialist TCC is available as an embedded specialization within the college’s Networking Specialist Associate of Applied Science degree.
SRTC offers over 150 degree, diploma, and certificate programs that are designed to get graduates quickly into a desired career, and 28 general education courses that transfer to the University System of Georgia institutions and 19 private colleges and universities in Georgia. SRTC has instructional sites located in eleven counties across Southwest Georgia for the convenience of its students. The College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). SACSCOC is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states.
