On September 6th, 2017 Governor Nathan Deal announced the appointment of Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) Associate of Science in Nursing Program Chair, Tammy Bryant, to the State of Georgia Board of Nursing.

“It is truly an honor for Tammy Bryant, our Associate of Science Degree in Nursing Program Director, to be named by Governor Deal to the Georgia Board of Nursing. To be named to a state board or committee is indicative of one’s professionalism, in-field knowledge and expertise, and service to the respective profession or discipline. Certainly, Ms. Bryant demonstrates and possesses those exemplary qualities. We at Southern Regional are proud of her and congratulate her on being named to this very important board. This is a significant accomplishment for Mrs. Bryant, and for our college to have one of our faculty and staff representing our institution on the Georgia Board of Nursing,” commented SRTC President Dr. Craig Wentworth.

The Georgia Board of Nursing exists to protect, promote, and preserve the public health, safety, and welfare through legislative regulation and control of practical nursing and registered professional education and practice. Today, the Georgia Board of Nursing consists of eight (8) members, 7 registered professional nurses and one consumer member who is not a registered professional nurse, appointed by the Governor and is responsible for the regulation of registered professional nurses and advanced practice registered nurses. As part of their responsibilities, Board members develop rules and regulations that set the standards for nursing practice and education, provide the minimum qualifications for licensure, and ensure that disciplinary process is implemented in a fashion that guarantees due process and public protection.

“I am honored to have been chosen to represent nursing education across the state of Georgia. This appointment will allow me to assist the Georgia Board of Nursing in developing and implementing strategies to address the statewide nursing shortage we continue to face. Nursing Education is my love and I cannot wait to share my passion with the State of Georgia,” commented Bryant.

Bryant is a member of the Nursing Education Committee for the Georgia Board of Nursing and the Steering Committee for the Inaugural Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing - Nursing Education Accreditation Conference. In 2017 she was SRTC’s local recipient of the Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Brenau University and a master’s degree in Nursing from Walden University. Bryant and her husband, Danny, have one daughter and live in Thomasville.

SRTC offers over 148 degree, diploma, and certificate programs that are designed to get you quickly into your desired career, and 27 general education courses that transfer to the University System of Georgia institutions and 19 private colleges and universities in Georgia.
