Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) embarked on a transformative journey with the groundbreaking ceremony for its new Technical and Industrial Building. The ceremony, held on May 21, 2024 at the Moultrie Veterans Parkway campus, marked a significant milestone in the college's history as it expanded its facilities to accommodate a range of essential programs.
The Technical and Industrial Building will house a variety of crucial programs aimed at equipping students with the skills and expertise needed to excel in today's competitive workforce. These programs included Air Conditioning Technology, Automotive Technology, Auto Collision and Repair, Carpentry, Electrical Systems Technology, Industrial Systems, Welding and Joining Technology, and a new Diesel Equipment Technology program.
"We were thrilled to celebrate the commencement of construction for our new Technical and Industrial Building," said Jim Glass, President of Southern Regional Technical College. "This facility will not only provide state-of-the-art training opportunities for our students but also strengthen our commitment to meeting the workforce needs of our community and region.

Mayor Bill McIntosh welcomed guests to Moultrie, underscoring the significance of the new facility for the local community.
Dawn Johns, Chair of the SRTC Board of Directors, provided a brief history of the college, highlighting its growth and impact over the years.
Senator Sam Watson and Representative Chas Cannon delivered special remarks, emphasizing the importance of technical education in driving economic development and prosperity.
Technical College System of Georgia Commissioner Greg Dozier served as the keynote speaker, offering insights into the future of technical education and workforce development in Georgia.
"When we talk about this building today, we don't see the brick and mortar, we see the product that comes out of that building - the folks that are going to fill those jobs and the needs across the state," says Commissioner Dozier. "When you think about changing lives and leaving a legacy, I can't think of anything better than giving someone the ability to earn a living wage and make a difference in their community. When we talk about this new building, I see those graduates making Georgia what it is today."

The Technical and Industrial Building at SRTC-Moultrie will be an integral component of the campus and has become a critical need for current and future students enrolled in the School of Industrial Technology on the Moultrie campus. SRTC will be able to provide training using expanded technology including computer-aided welding equipment and technology currently required in the auto painting industry. This new state-of-the-art facility will enable students to translate their skills from the classroom to the workforce. With an enhanced collaboration over the years in our area high schools, this new facility will provide even greater opportunities to strengthen that partnership -- further providing a greater service to our students and the region.
The groundbreaking ceremony symbolized a new chapter in SRTC's journey, marked by innovation, collaboration, and dedication to excellence in technical education.
SRTC offers over 150 degree, diploma, and certificate programs that are designed to get graduates quickly into a desired career, and 28 general education courses that transfer to the University System of Georgia institutions and 19 private colleges and universities in Georgia. SRTC has instructional sites located in eleven counties across Southwest Georgia for the convenience of its students. The College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
