Southern Regional Technical College’s 2023 Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) delegate is Jessica Mcgrotha of Tifton. The statewide EAGLE Program recognizes and honors students who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in their adult education classes.
As a part of her addiction recovery process, she began pursuing a goal that she had never considered achieving: earning her GED. She took advantage of the free Adult Education courses at SRTC.
In her own words,
“My experience in the Adult Education program at Southern Regional can be summed up in one word: opportunity. Prior to enrolling in the Adult Ed program at SRTC, I had a life-changing experience. Like many people, I struggled with addiction. By the grace of God, I found my way to The Potter’s House for Women, a residential discipleship program that gave me a new perspective on life. Part of my new perspective was to set goals for myself. I knew that education was key to improving myself and my future. So, I enrolled in the Adult Ed program in order to earn my GED.
I was so nervous, but I am glad I took the chance. When I took my math test, I did not pass the first time. It was disappointing, but I knew I had to stick with it – I could not give up on myself. I worked, studied, and practiced more. I passed my GED math test in April 2022 – thank you Jesus! I passed my last GED test in September!
I am grateful to everyone at the Adult Ed program at Southern Regional. I know there are many people in the state of Georgia who can benefit from the Adult Ed programs by getting the same kind of opportunities.”
This spring, Jessica will represent our Adult Education program at the state EAGLE Leadership Institute in Atlanta.
