On Thursday, April 25, 2024, Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) recognized five graduating Medical Assisting students at a pinning ceremony at SRTC-Moultrie honoring their achievements. The students received pins and small gifts in honor of their accomplishments. The graduating Medical Assisting students include Shelby Cardin of Berlin, Tania Licona of Moultrie, Kimberly Bristol of Barney, Caprela Wright of Tifton, and Jermeta Greene of Tifton.
Shelby Cardin of Thomasville and Caprela Wright of Tifton were awarded the Highest GPA Award for their GPAs of 3.803 and 3.072 respectively.
Each of the graduating students completed multiple semesters of rigorous prerequisite and occupational coursework, including a series of clinical rotations at local medical offices. The students completed the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam and we are proud to announce that they achieved a 100% pass rate. This designation represents a medical assistant who has been credentialed through the Certifying Board of the AAMA.
“We are incredibly proud of the accomplishments of this group of graduates and know they will represent our college and community as leaders in their field as they progress in their careers. They have been wonderful ambassadors of our college during their time on campus. We are certain they will continue to impact the communities they serve in a positive way. We have seen these individuals grow and become stronger in their compassion for others, their courage to raise the bar, and their faith to believe in the profession and in themselves. We wish them the best as they move forward in their journey,” stated Sherry Harrison, Medical Assisting Program Chair, and Gina Sierra, Medical Assisting Instructor for SRTC.
The students joined Medical Assisting faculty in reciting the AAMA Medical Assistant Creed:

The Medical Assisting program at SRTC trains students for administrative and clinical duties, primarily in physicians’ offices or clinics. Clinical skills include taking vital signs, obtaining medical histories, performing basic lab tests, sterilizing instruments, administering medications, and assisting the physician. Administrative skills include answering phones, scheduling appointments, filing medical and insurance reports, arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services.
The College offers both degree and diploma educational tracks.
