Mobile App to Offer Increased Flexibility for Students

Posted on

Starting this fall, students at Southern Regional Technical College will have an increased level of flexibility on when, where, and how they can access vital College services. Available now for iOS and Android devices via the Apple App Store and Google Play, the College’s new mobile app, ‘My SRTC,’ will provide students with 24/7 access to grades, course information, and financial aid, in addition to giving students the ability to register for classes from any mobile device.

Furthermore, the application is fully integrated with the College’s social media accounts and website, and provides bird’s eye views of each instructional site with labeled campus maps. Perhaps most importantly, the app also serves as a mobile alert system in times of crisis or natural disaster. The use of mobile devices for critical communication has increased in recent years, due primarily to the prevalence of ownership among Americans. According to a 2015 Pew Research Center survey, a whopping 86% of American adults between the ages of 18 and 29 have smartphones. Comparatively, 78% of adults under 30 own a personal computer, down from 88% in 2010. This data is indicative of the recent trend of young adults and professionals choosing to utilize mobile devices in lieu of personal computers.

“With the advent of the ‘My SRTC’ mobile app, our students will be able to easily and conveniently access college-relevant information and services through their cell phone, tablet, and/or other electronic devices. In today’s fast-paced, instant feedback, and information-rich society, I believe this will be an exciting and welcome addition for our students and overall college community,” commented Dr. Craig Wentworth, President of Southern Regional Technical College.

Students are excited about the possibilities a mobile app presents for streamlining college services.

“To me, having the ability to autonomously complete registration, check account balances, and garner access to the entire suite of services offered by the College is incredible. Those factors, along with being able to complete them pretty much anywhere, more or less eliminates many of the common obstacles students face when considering whether or not they will start and / or continue their education,” commented current SRTC student Angela Baze.

SRTC offers over 155 degree, diploma, and certificate programs that are designed to get you quickly into your desired career, and 27 general education courses that transfer to the University System of Georgia institutions and 19 private colleges and universities in Georgia. SRTC has instructional sites located in Ashburn, Cairo, Camilla, Moultrie, Thomasville, Tifton, and Sylvester for the convenience of our students. The College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). SACSCOC is the regional body for the accreditation of degree-granting higher education institutions in the Southern states.
