The School of Arts and Sciences at Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) recently announced the introduction of two advanced Biology courses at SRTC - Cairo. Cairo native, Dr. Heidi Bivins, will teach Anatomy and Physiology (A&P) lecture courses as well as Biology 2113 and Biology 2114 and their accompanying labs beginning in January of 2020. The A&P courses are core requirements for upper-level health science majors. Biology 2113 will be offered for the spring semester and will meet on Mondays from 10 am -12:30 pm (lecture) and 1:30 - 3:30 pm (lab). Biology 2114 will be available to students the following semester.

Health science programs at SRTC have grown at a steady rate for several years, as the demand for healthcare providers in the Southwest Georgia region has continued to rise. Dr. Bivins said that the addition of advanced science courses to the campus’ current general education course offerings will be a boon for Cairo-area students pursuing careers in the health field. “As it stands now, I have students driving an hour or more to attend A&P courses at our other campus locations,” she said. “Expanding our course offerings at SRTC - Cairo is an example of SRTC’s commitment to making classes practical and convenient for our students’ busy lives.” Dr. Bivins added that the need for health and science instructors continues to grow as the various healthcare programs grow. She encouraged individuals with master's or doctoral degrees in related fields to visit the SRTC Job Center for more information about joining the college as an instructor.
