The leadership of Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) and Albany State University (ASU) have signed an articulation agreement that creates new education opportunities for SRTC students who graduate with an associate degree in Early Childhood Care and Education.
Under the agreement, which was signed on June 8, students who complete their Associate of Applied Science degree from SRTC in Early Childhood Care and Education can transfer their college credits toward a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education at ASU.
“We’re grateful to Albany State University President Dr. Art Dunning and his faculty and staff for their desire to partner with SRTC on this articulation agreement and open new doors of opportunity for our students. It creates a seamless pathway for eligible SRTC graduates who want to continue their higher education and earn a bachelor’s degree from ASU in Elementary Education,” said SRTC President, Dr. Craig R. Wentworth.
The partnership between SRTC and ASU has already provided valuable opportunities that increase the accessibility of higher education throughout the area. ASU has offered upper level courses in Early Elementary Education at the SRTC – Cairo location for several years. This articulation agreement, combined with other existing agreements, will help expand those opportunities and help provide more individuals the chance to obtain a higher degree.

Students pursuing degrees in Early Childhood Education have numerous options and opportunities today. We thought it only fitting to offer the optimum choice for this discipline, an Associate of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education degree from SRTC, before having a seamless transition to ASU -- ultimately, earning the four-year, Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education."
Albany State’s Off-Campus Programs offer classes in the evenings Monday through Thursday on the Grady County site. The estimated cost for students to attend ASU averages about $1500-$2500 each semester depending on the number of classes they are enrolled in. Financial aid scholarships and grants are available to almost all students to help cover costs.
The ASU Education classes taught at the SRTC - Cairo site are taught by retired educators and administrators who wanted to have an impact on future educators in our region. These adjunct instructors are able to share their own experiences and knowledge with the students which often goes well beyond textbook training. The Cairo cohort has a 100% pass rate on the new edTPA assessment as well as high performance ratings in GACE and job placements.
