Southern Regional Technical College's (SRTC) Surgical Technology program graduates achieved a 100% passage rate on the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination, administered through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).

Eight students from the Thomasville and Tifton cohorts completed the rigorous program, including multiple semesters of prerequisite and occupational coursework and a series of clinical rotations at local medical offices. The graduating Thomasville cohort includes Alexis Anderson of Moultrie, Emily Lamb of Bainbridge, and Loren Smith of Camilla. The graduating Tifton cohort includes Jessica Bishop of Naylor, Karen Hernandez-Barradas of Tifton, Mirmi Ana Lopez of Cordele, Cameron Loving of Valdosta, and Ashley Salabarria of Moultrie.

The students were honored at a pinning ceremony held Thursday, July 23, 2026, in Moultrie, celebrating the culmination of their hard work and dedication to the field of surgical technology. Each graduate went on to pass the CST exam, earning their certification and marking the start of their careers in operating rooms and surgical facilities across the region.

Graduates of SRTC's Surgical Technology program receive an Associate of Applied Science degree and are prepared to step directly into the operating room, where they learn to prepare surgical suites, arrange instruments and equipment, and assist physicians during procedures. Coursework covers surgical procedures, aseptic technique, medical terminology, anatomy, and pharmacology, along with the interpersonal skills students need to thrive in a fast-paced clinical setting.

"Every graduating class leaves its mark, but this one stands out for its resilience, teamwork, and unwavering commitment to becoming the best they could be," said Gina Chambers, Surgical Technology Program Chair. "I couldn't be prouder of the professionals they've become, and I have no doubt they will make a lasting difference in every operating room they enter."
