SRTC Awarded MathGPT.ai Access and Innovation Partnership Grant

Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) was recently awarded the MathGPT.ai Access and Innovation Partnership Grant for the School of Arts and Sciences’ Mathematics Department. The MathGPT.ai Access and Innovation Partnership Grant is designed to lower the financial barrier of entry for math education, deploy modern, responsible AI solutions, and to support faculty with resources for professional development.

SRTC serves a diverse population of first-generation college students, working adults, high schoolers, and students from rural and underserved communities across Southwest Georgia. Many students arrive underprepared for college-level mathematics, and the high cost of traditional course materials creates an additional barrier that disproportionately affects those already navigating financial hardship. This grant will serve as a pivotal resource in addressing both challenges simultaneously.

By integrating MathGPT.ai, an AI-powered mathematics platform, into the classroom, SRTC will replace costly traditional course materials while providing students with personalized, on-demand academic support. With 11 faculty members teaching over 2,000 students annually, the scale of this initiative ensures broad, measurable impact within the School of Arts and Sciences.

“We believe that responsible AI integration, when thoughtfully implemented, can level the playing field for students who have historically faced the greatest obstacles in gateway mathematics courses,” said Leslie Elkins, SRTC Mathematics Program Chair. “This grant allows us to meet our students where they are, academically and economically, while improving both persistence and long-term academic success.”

As a recipient in the 2,000+ annual math enrollment funding tier, SRTC will receive 10% of realized MathGPT.ai revenue generated through student use. These funds may be directed toward faculty support, including stipends for adjunct training and upskilling, curriculum redesign, and “AI in Education” professional development and certification, as well as departmental growth initiatives such as conference travel, merit-based student scholarships, and math lab technology upgrades.

SRTC’s Mathematics Department remains dedicated to innovative, student-centered instruction. This partnership with MathGPT.ai reflects the college’s broader commitment to harnessing technology responsibly in the service of student success, particularly for those who face the greatest obstacles on the path to completing gateway mathematics coursework.

Southern Regional Technical College offers over 150 degree, diploma, and certificate programs that are designed to get students quickly into their desired careers, and 38 general education courses that transfer to the University System of Georgia institutions and 19 private colleges and universities in Georgia.
