Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) is pleased to announce that Director for Adult Education Andy Semones has assumed a new title at the college: Dean for Adult Education.

Semones has been an integral part of the college since 2008, serving as an Adult Education Instructor, Adult Education Coordinator, and Director of Adult Education. Assuming the title of Academic Dean conveys the administrative responsibility Semones has managed for the Adult Education unit over the past 3 years as Director and the impactful work he has done for the program. With an impressive educational background, Semones holds an Associate of Science degree, an Associate of Arts degree, a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education degree, and a Master of Humanities in English degree.

Semones's experience and commitment to adult education have significantly contributed to the growth and success of SRTC's adult education programs. The Integrated Education and Training (IET) program saw a 33% increase from the 2023 to the 2024 fiscal year. The number of GEDs earned by students increased by 18.5% during the same period. Additionally, enrollment in adult education programs rose by 17%, marking two consecutive years of record-breaking achievements for the program.

Semones's contributions extend beyond the college into the community. He currently serves as the Chair of the Grady County Family Connections Committee and has been a member for 12 years. He is also a board member of the Thomas County Certified Literate Community Program (CLCP) and has been involved with the Grady County Literacy Committee and Early County Family Connections Committee for eight years each. His involvement with the WorkSource Southern Georgia Healthcare Strategies Partnership Committee and the Georgia Department of Labor One-Stop Committee highlights his dedication to improving education and workforce development in the region.

In addition to his community service, Semones has been actively engaged within the college, serving on the Internal Campaign Committee, Scholarship Review Committee, and as a member of the Foundation 2% Club. He has also been a former advisor for the National Technical Honor Society and has represented the college at national conferences as a state delegate. Semones's professional affiliations include membership in the Commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE) and Sigma Tau Delta, the International English Honor Society. His accolades include a nomination for the Department of Community Supervision Stakeholder of the Year in 2021, receiving the Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Education in 2016, and receiving the President's Leadership Award at SRTC in 2015.

"Andy is an incredible asset to our SRTC community," said SRTC's President Jim Glass. "His dedication, expertise, and innovative approach have been instrumental in advancing our adult education programs. This promotion to Dean for Adult Education was a natural evolution and an acknowledgment of the remarkable work he has done."

SRTC offers over 150 degree, diploma, and certificate programs that are designed to get graduates quickly into a desired career, and 28 general education courses that transfer to the University System of Georgia institutions and 19 private colleges and universities in Georgia.
