SRTC Student Team Raises $600 for Moultrie YMCA

A group of industrious students from the Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) Team Project class in Moultrie raised $600 for the Moultrie YMCA's new Teen Room during the 2019 Spring Semester.

The Team Project course is designed to introduce future business leaders to the realities and rewards of successful project management. The course is unique in that each semester, students form teams to initiate and complete real-world projects in order to benefit local charitable organizations.

The students chose to raise funds for the Y’s new Teen Center after meeting with representatives from the Moultrie YMCA, including Rich Gallagher, Leslie Peretti, and Devin Wisham, who talked to them about recent and planned renovations and improvements to their facility.

Mrs. Wisham commented, “Each day, nearly 100 teens and tweens are dropped off by the bus at the Y. We have an opportunity to pour into these young people’s lives and are working diligently to create a safe space they can call their own at the Y. We want to feed them, mentor them and help them develop their leadership skills.”

Spring Semester’s team of students included Reese Smith, Tonya Dean, Josh Eidson, Phyllis Carden, Daris Collier, Jonathan Florencio, and Cornelia Sanders. They were guided by SRTC Business Management Instructor Denik Revels.

Mrs. Revels commented, “I am so proud of what these students accomplished! This course is designed to present a real-world challenge for these students, to really test the skills that they have learned over several business courses. By the time our Business students enroll in this course, they have learned a great deal about the world of business, in theory. The Team Project course is their opportunity to put much of what they have learned into practice. Teamwork, planning, budgeting, ethics, and marketing skills are needed to pull off a successful project in less than 16 weeks!”
