The Georgia Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) South District Conference was recently held at the Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) Tifton Campus. The event featured over 130 students from throughout the southern region, including representatives from all three SRTC PBL chapters. Many competitors from SRTC finished in the top two of their respective events and will represent SRTC at the PBL State Competition to be held in Atlanta, GA in April. Competitors placing first in their respective categories at the state level will be invited to compete in the national competition held in Chicago, IL later this summer.

Below is a comprehensive list of participants from SRTC PBL and their corresponding placement in each event:

“Our students represented SRTC in an incredible fashion and have shown they are leaders in their respective categories. To borrow a quote from Sam Lester, Executive Director of the State PBL organization, who said it best when he stated “Many of our students are told repeatedly that they will never amount to anything, but today they can show that they are important. Today they have proven that they are extraordinary.” Our facilities were once again commended for exceptional quality by those in attendance. Hosting this event was a true team effort and we are grateful to everyone who made this possible,” commented Susan Davis and Melody Tawzer, SRTC PBL Faculty Advisors.

The FBLA concept was developed in 1937 by Dr. Hamden L. Forkner of Columbia University. The first high school chapter was chartered in Johnson City, Tennessee on February 3, 1942. In 1958, the first PBL collegiate chapter was chartered in Iowa. The Professional Division, originally the Alumni Division, began in 1979. Joining FBLA-PBL in 1994 was the FBLA-Middle Level for students in grades 5-9. Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) education association with a quarter million students preparing for careers in business and business-related fields.
