On Thursday, July 25, 2024, Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) recognized three graduating Surgical Technology students at a pinning ceremony at SRTC-Tifton honoring their achievements.
The graduating Surgical Technology Tifton cohort includes Rachel Bryan of Poulan, Amia Davis of Ty Ty, and Madison Scott of Sylvester.
Each of the graduating students completed multiple semesters of rigorous prerequisite and occupational coursework, including a series of clinical rotations at local medical offices. Graduates of the program receive a surgical technology associate of applied science degree. The students sat for the Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA). Each graduate passed their board exam on the first attempt. This 100% first-attempt pass rate is a major accomplishment for this program and its students.
The Surgical Technology program at SRTC prepares students for careers in operating rooms and surgical facilities. Students learn to prepare operating rooms, arrange equipment, and assist doctors during surgeries. The program emphasizes surgical procedures, aseptic techniques, medical terminology, anatomy, pharmacology, and the interpersonal skills necessary for success in this dynamic field.
"The past year has been a challenging journey filled with long hours, rigorous coursework, and demanding clinical experiences. Yet, these students have risen to every challenge, demonstrating exceptional skill, knowledge, and professionalism," said Gina Chambers, Surgical Technology Program Chair. "Their ability to master the intricacies of the operating room is a testament to their hard work and determination.
