On Wednesday, March 13, the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) announced their 2019 Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) winners. Out of 26 top candidates, Mr. Joshua Jackson of Tifton was recognized as first runner up. The EAGLE Program celebrates adult learners in pursuit of excellence. This state-wide program recognizes and honors students who have demonstrated exceptional achievement in statewide adult education classes. Adult Education instructors in public, private, and grantee agencies nominate students at the local program level to participate in the EAGLE recognition program at the state level. Selection criteria include student character, attitude, attendance, leadership and community involvement and activities.
Every EAGLE delegate is considered an ambassador and spokesperson for literacy, serving local communities and the state by promoting lifelong learning. Mr. Jackson represented the Adult Education program at Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) during this week’s state EAGLE Leadership Institute in Atlanta.
Mr. Jackson overcame a childhood bereft of educational opportunities by taking part in the free GED program at SRTC- Tifton. He spent two years attending day and night classes as well as the online program, while continually working and building a life with his supportive wife, Dava.
Of his experience with the EAGLE program, Mr. Jackson said, “I am honored to represent SRTC as the 2019 EAGLE delegate and the state runner up for EAGLE. Being an EAGLE delegate has been a priceless experience that I will remember for the rest of my life. Thank you to my teachers Mrs. Abell, Mrs. Bailey, and Mrs. Walker for all of the support throughout my time in the Adult Education program. I look forward to continuing my education at SRTC in the Business Management program.” As runner up, his prize includes a $1000 scholarship in support of his ongoing scholastic pursuits.
