6.6.1sr4 – SRTC Procedure: Return of Unearned Military Tuition Assistance (TA) to Department of Defense (DOD)
Military Tuition Assistance (TA) is awarded to a service member under the assumption that the service member will attend school for the entire period for which the assistance is awarded. When a service member withdraws, the service member may no longer be eligible for the full amount of TA funds originally awarded.
When a student withdraws officially or unofficially on or before 60% of the course(s) are completed, SRTC must recalculate the amount of TA to be awarded to the service member. In order to comply with the Department of Defense policy, Southern Regional Technical College must return any unearned TA funds on a proportional basis through the 60% portion of the term. After a student completes 60% of the term, all TA funds are considered fully earned.
If a service member stops attending due to a military service obligation deployment or temporary duty (TDY), Southern Regional Technical College will work with the affected service member to identify solutions that may minimize the student debt for the returned portion.
