SRTC Procedure: Distance Education Verification of Student Identity

Purpose
The purpose of the Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) Procedure: Distance Education Verification of Student Identity is to ensure that the student who registers in a distance education course is the same student who participates in and completes the course and receives the credit.

Secure Login
To ensure that the student who registers in a distance education course is the same student who participates in and completes the course and receives the credit, SRTC implements a procedure to verify the identity of the student enrolled in an online course. The procedure involves the use of a single-sign-on secure learning management system (LMS) login. The login requires a secure password and a username composed of a unique identification number assigned by the College to the student upon admission. The College provides the student identification number to the student via an acceptance letter and Bannerweb. Through the SRTC website, new student orientation, and the SRTC Distance Education LMS, SRTC informs students of the secure login method and instructs students not to share their login and password information with others for security and student privacy reasons. If login security is compromised, students may reset passwords.

Responsibility
The Vice President for Academic Affairs has the overall responsibility for ensuring this procedure is implemented.
