Executive Director of the Georgia Technical College Directors Association (TCDA) Adie Shimandle recently announced that Dawn Johns has been elected to serve on the TCDA Executive Board as an at large member. She was sworn in in Savannah at the TCDA and Technical College Foundation Association (TCFA) Leadership Conference in October. Johns serves Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) as Board Chair for the SRTC Board of Directors.
Professionally, Johns is the Vice-President of Human Resources and Support Services for Colquitt Regional Medical Center in Moultrie. She has worked for the medical center since 1993. As a member of the Executive Team at Colquitt Regional, she provides leadership for the Human Resources, Corporate Health, Foundation, Marketing, Volunteer Auxiliary, Environmental Services, and Security departments. She is the Past President of Georgia Society of Healthcare Human Resources Administration (GSHHRA), and has served as a GSHHRA Board Member for 28 years.
“I am honored by the opportunity to serve Georgia Technical College Directors Association as a member of the Executive Board,” said Johns. “As a supporter of technical education in Georgia, I am eager to join the Committee in developing and promoting leadership across TCSG.”
TCDA's mission is to enhance the capability of local boards of directors to elevate the value of technical and adult education in Georgia. The local boards, created by Georgia state statute, aid the TCSG Board in fulfilling its mission. Their primary purposes are to advise on program direction, provide a check and balance for college goals and objectives, and advocate for the technical college system and workforce development efforts. TCDA’s Executive Committee members help host the annual Leadership Conference, assist in designing the TECH speakers at the conference, and represent TCDA at the ACCT Legislative Conference in Washington.
SRTC President Jim Glass commended Dawn Johns for her appointment to this prestigious position. “I am so proud that Dawn has been selected to serve on this important board. In addition to her exemplary career with Colquitt Regional, Dawn has demonstrated her commitment to technical education and workforce development for as long as I have known her. She has been an excellent Board Chair for us, and I am confident that she will be an excellent addition to this board as well.”
SRTC offers over 150 degree, diploma, and certificate programs that are designed to get graduates quickly into a desired career, and 28 general education courses that transfer to the University System of Georgia institutions and 19 private colleges and universities in Georgia. SRTC has instructional sites located in eleven counties across Southwest Georgia for the convenience of its students. The College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).
