Georgia Power Makes $10,000 Donation to SRTC Foundation

The Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) Foundation recently received a generous donation from the Georgia Power Foundation. On Wednesday, June 9, Georgia Power’s Tifton Area Manager and SRTC Board Chair Lynn Lovett presented SRTC President Jim Glass with a $10,000 donation to the Foundation at SRTC.

The College’s Foundation will use these funds to support nontraditional student scholarships. These scholarships reward students for their academic achievement in programs where their gender is underrepresented. The scholarships will also provide student recipients with financial assistance for tuition, books, and other fees. By offering more scholarships for students, the Foundation and SRTC hope to improve the skills, technical training, and educational level of the citizens of their community.

“We appreciate Georgia Power so much for their continued commitment to education in our state, particularly the Technical College System of Georgia,” said President Glass. “Their generous donation supports workforce development through student scholarships here at SRTC. These funds help ease the financial burden for our students as they are training to become tomorrow’s skilled labor force. We are grateful for their ongoing partnership.”

In addition to their numerous financial contributions to the College, Georgia Power provides company representation and decision-making leadership on the SRTC Board of Directors. Lynn Lovett, a long time Georgia Power employee, first joined the SRTC Board of Directors in 2012 with the former Moultrie Technical College and began her role as Board Chair on September 1, 2020. In this role, she helps advise the College on program direction, and assists with the development and implementation of College goals, objectives, policies and procedures.

“I am honored to present this donation to the SRTC Foundation on behalf of Georgia Power Company and to represent the company through my service as SRTC as Board Chair,” said Lovett. “As a board member, I have already witnessed the remarkable impact that technical education makes on our communities. I hope this donation assists the College in its mission to provide for the educational and career needs of our students, and the workforce development needs of our area.”
