Identical Twins Briana and Adriana Gordon: A Bonded Journey Through Nursing School

Posted on

Briana and Adriana Gordon, identical twins bound by more than just genetics, share an unbreakable bond that extends into their academic and professional lives. The sisters will be graduating from Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) on July 30, 2024, from the Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) program. Graduating together is not just an achievement for them individually, but a testament to their shared journey through the nursing program, marked by dedication, support, and sisterly love.

For Briana, nursing was not just a career choice but a lifelong calling. From her early days as a certified nursing assistant, she knew that her purpose lies in caring for others. She became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) before graduating high school and started working with elderly patients, which showed her true passion for helping others. Later, she pursued further education and obtained her Practical Nursing (PN) license.

Adriana's path was similarly influenced by her experiences, particularly as a young mother seeking stability and a fulfilling career. Adriana also worked as a CNA during her senior year of high school, where the nurses inspired her by expressing how well she and her sister would attend to and care for patients.

Throughout their time in the ASN program at SRTC, the sisters shared countless memorable experiences. “Being a twin in this nursing program was extremely rewarding and came with many advantages,” said Adriana. “My sister has been my study partner since day one of starting this program.” With a built-in study partner and sounding board, they navigated complex nursing concepts together, complementing each other's strengths and weaknesses. Whether discussing cardiac physiology or delving into the intricacies of patient care, they approached each challenge as a team.

As graduation approaches, Ariana and Briana reflect on the faculty who impacted their nursing education. “Mrs. Spivey impacted my education in such an influential way,” said Adriana. “She taught me to think about the content that was presented and see it more critically.” The sisters give special thanks to Shae Spivey, MSN, RN, Practical Nursing Program Chair, and Amy Brock, MSN, RN, Dean of Health Sciences, whose dedication and innovative teaching methods have inspired them to excel.

After graduation, Briana plans to continue working with geriatric and psychiatric patients close to home in Bainbridge, Georgia. Adriana plans to gain some emergency and medical-surgical experience. She also hopes to find a job near home in Bainbridge that promotes work-life balance.

As Briana and Adriana Gordon prepare to graduate from SRTC’s ASN program in July, their journey exemplifies the power of familial bonds and shared determination. Their intertwined paths, from their early days as CNAs to their collaborative study sessions, have been characterized by mutual support and a deep-seated passion for nursing. Influenced by dedicated faculty and driven by personal experiences, the sisters are now ready to embark on their respective nursing careers. Their story is not just one of academic success but also a testament to the strength found in shared dreams.
