Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) President Jim Glass has appointed Mason Miller as the new Vice President for Academic Affairs of Southern Regional Technical College beginning June 1, 2024.
Miller has served as the Dean for Industrial Technology and the Program Chair of the Automotive Technology program at SRTC. In his role as Dean, Miller was responsible for supervision of all programs within the School of Industrial Technology including: Air Conditioning Technology, Automotive Collision and Refinishing, Automotive Technology, Carpentry, Civil Engineering, Drafting Technology, Electrical Construction and Maintenance, Industrial Systems Technology, Machine Shop Technology, and Welding and Joining Technology. Under Miller’s leadership, the School of Industrial Technology’s enrollment grew by 18.08% from academic year 2023 to academic year 2024.
With an impressive educational background, Miller holds a Bachelor of Science in Workforce Education and a Master of Science in Career and Technical Education. Before coming to SRTC, Miller was the Automotive Technology Program Chair at Thomas County Central High School. He served as Fixed Operations Director at multiple dealerships in South Georgia where he managed the fixed operations with a focus on service efficiency and budget management across three departments. He monitored overall dealership performance, conducted financial data analysis, and created and adhered to annual budgets.
In his new role, Miller is responsible for evaluating the quality of academic programs to meet state standards and industry needs by utilizing student learning outcomes, placement and graduation rates, licensure results, and other appropriate metrics. He oversees leadership for programmatic and institutional accreditation as well as monitoring program enrollment, recommending the implementation or discontinuance of academic programs, and approving new curricula and revisions. “Mason has proven himself as an outstanding educator, administrator, and visionary,” said SRTC President Jim Glass. “I look forward to him leading our mission of providing a well-educated workforce for Southwest Georgia.”
Miller’s involvement extends beyond the college into the community. He presently serves on the TEFGA Board of Directors, Electude International Education Advisory Board, and is co-chair of the Automotive IFCC for the Technical College System of Georgia. For four years, Miller served as the President of the General Motors Southeast Parts and Service Guild. Miller’s achievements include the Trade and Industrial Educators of Georgia New Teacher of the Year, General Motors Mark of Excellence Winner, and NASCAR Shootout winner.
Miller said that throughout his time at SRTC, he has witnessed firsthand the impact of education, “Education transforms lives by opening doors to new opportunities. Our mission at SRTC is to inspire and equip our students with the knowledge and skills they need to pursue their passions and make a lasting impact in the world. I am honored to take on this new role as Vice President for Academic Affairs and continue providing excellent opportunities for our students.”
