Southern Regional Technical College (SRTC) was selected as a recipient of a grant from the Georgia Healthcare Association through the Georgia Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Career Pathway Initiative's Long-Term Care CNA Stipend Program. The Long-Term Care CNA Stipend Program is designed to increase the number of Certified Nursing Assistants in Georgia's long-term care facilities.

The Long-Term Care CNA Stipend Program, a collaborative effort between SRTC, the Georgia Healthcare Association, and Pelham High School, aims to support students through their journey to become certified nursing assistants. A total of 14 dual enrollment students from Pelham High School enrolled in the Nurse Aide program were selected for this grant. The students awarded include Caleb Buckner of Camilla, Madison Gay of Meigs, Bradaysha Gillis of Pelham, Landen Griner of Pelham, Aunika Haywood of Pelham, Kinsley Humphries of Meigs, Jaylen Jackson of Pelham, Kimora Jones of Camilla, Jacklyn Lovos of Pelham, Alyssa McCall of Sale City, Brianna Norman of Camilla, Kimaya Reese of Pelham, Kenneth Williams of Moultrie, and Hannah Wilson of Baconton.

The students will receive $1,250 upon starting the nurse aide training program, an additional $1,250 upon completing the program and obtaining their CNA certification, and $2,500 upon completing three months of tenure in a Georgia long-term care facility. The grant will cover various expenses incurred during their nurse aide training program, including the cost of books, testing, child/elder care, and travel. Under the guidance of Renn West, Nurse Aide Program Coordinator at SRTC, students were encouraged to apply for the grant and were supported throughout the application process.

The impact of this grant extends beyond individual students, contributing to the overall improvement of healthcare services in the community. By nurturing a skilled workforce of certified nursing assistants, the program enhances patient care and outcomes in long-term care facilities throughout Georgia. The collaborative efforts of educators like Renn West and the support of partners such as the Georgia Healthcare Association have paved the way for the realization of students' career goals and the advancement of healthcare in our communities.
