This course is designed to prepare associate degree nursing students to provide nursing care to a variety of clients experiencing transitions of health status related to childbearing and the health care of women. Students will be challenged to integrate prior and new knowledge using therapeutic communication, critical thinking and clinical judgment to plan and provide nursing care for women and newborns. Incorporation of the dynamic interplay of culture, socioeconomic status, spiritual beliefs as well as psychological and physiological needs in the care of the individual within the context of the family will be expected. Reflection upon the legal and ethical issues affecting the family and collaboration with the family and other health team members in a variety of community settings will be part of the learning experience. The student will gain knowledge in the system of classification/prototypes of drugs according to body system.
