Vertical Shielded Metal Arc Welder Fabricator (480508) Technical Certificate of Credit
The Vertical Shielded Metal Arc Welding Fabricator technical certificate of credit prepares students for careers in shielded metal arc welding fabrication.
Length of Program: One (1) Semester
• Students will setup and operate a Shielded Metal Arc Welding machine to make specific weldments in the vertical position.
Entrance Date: Beginning of each semester.
Entrance Requirements: Refer to Admissions criteria. Applicant must be a graduate of the Basic Shielded Metal Arc Welder TCC or possess equivalent courses. Click for Entrance Score Requirements.
Age: Applicant must be 16 years of age or older.
Education: An applicant must be a high school graduate or the equivalent (GED). College transcripts will be evaluated on an individual basis.
Advisor: A Program Advisor should be consulted prior to enrolling in any course. An advisor will be assigned by admissions.
Program Final Exit Point: Vertical Shielded Metal Arc Welder, Technical Certificate of Credit.
Credits Required for Graduation: 11 minimum semester hour credits required for graduation
Note: Credits from this program may be applied to a diploma program.

4.00 Credits Pre/Co-requisite(s): WELD 1040 Introduces the major theory, safety practices, and techniques required for shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) in the horizontal position. Qualification tests, horizontal position, are used in the evaluation of student progress toward making industrial standard welds. Topics include: horizontal SMAW safety and health practices, selection and applications of electrodes, selection and applications for horizontal SMAW, horizontal SMAW joints, and horizontal SMAW to specification. |
