The Industrial Systems Technology Diploma program is designed for the student who wishes to prepare for a career as an Industrial Systems technician/electrician. The program provides learning opportunities that introduce, develop and reinforce academic and technical knowledge, skill, and attitudes required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. Additionally, the program provides opportunities to retrain or upgrade present knowledge and skill. The diploma program teaches skills in Industrial Systems Technology providing background skills in several areas of industrial maintenance including electronics, industrial wiring, motors, controls, PLC's, instrumentation, fluidpower, mechanical, pumps and piping, and computers. Graduates of the program receive an Industrial Systems Technology Diploma that qualifies them for employment as industrial electricians or industrial systems technicians.

Length of Program: Four (4) Semesters

Student Learning Outcomes:

Age: Applicant must be 16 years of age or older.

Education: An applicant must be a high school graduate or the equivalent (GED). College transcripts will be evaluated on an individual basis.

Advisor: A Program Advisor should be consulted prior to enrolling in any course. An advisor will be assigned by admissions.

Emphasis is placed on students understanding basic psychological principles and their application within the context of family, work and social interactions. Topics include an overview of psychology as a science, the nervous and sensory systems, learning and memory, motivation and emotion, intelligence, lifespan development, personality, psychological disorders and their treatments, stress and health, and social psychology.

3.00 Credit Hours This course is designed to provide tools to assist students to acquire skills necessary to achieve academic and professional success in their chosen occupational/ technical program of study. Topics include: Getting off to a Good Start, Learning and Personality Styles, Time and Money Management, Study and Test Taking Skills, Stress Management and Wellness, Communications Skills, Career Exploration, Research Skills, College Campus Knowledge, Memory & Reading Skills, Presentation & Interview Skills, and Group Skills. Effective Fall 2016, students who already have an Associate Degree or higher will be given exemption credit for the COLL 1500 course.

4.00 Credit Hours NOTE: Students enrolled in this course are required to complete the entry level occupational work ethics course during the same term. This course introduces the fundamental concepts, principles, and devices involved in industrial motor controls,theories and applications of single and three-phase motors, wiring motor control circuits, and magnetic starters and braking. Topics include, but are not limited to, motor theory and operating principles, control devices, symbols and schematic diagrams, NEMA standards, Article 430 NEC and preventative maintenance and troubleshooting.

4.00 Credit Hours This course introduces the operational theory, systems terminology, PLC installation, and programming procedures for Programmable Logic Controllers. Emphasis is placed on PLC programming, connections, installation, and start-up procedures. Other topics include timers and counters, relay logic instructions, and hardware and software applications.

4.00 Credit Hours NOTE: Students enrolled in this course are required to complete the capstone level occupational work ethics course during the same term. Teaches the fundamental concepts of industrial wiring with an emphasis on installation procedures. Topics include: grounding, raceways, three-phase systems, transformers (three-phase and single-phase), wire sizing, overcurrent protection, NEC requirements, industrial lighting systems, and switches, receptacles, and cord connectors.

4.00 Credit Hours NOTE: Students enrolled in this course are required to complete the entry level occupational work ethics course during the same term. This course introduces and emphasizes the basic skill necessary for mechanical maintenance personnel. Instruction is also provided in the basic physics concepts applicable to the mechanics of industrial production equipment, and the application of mechanical principles with additional emphasis on power transmission and specific mechanical components.

This course provides instruction in the fundamentals of safely operating hydraulic, pneumatic, and pump and piping systems. Theory and practical application concepts are discussed. Topics include hydraulic system principles and components, pneumatic system principles and components, and the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of pump and piping systems.

3.00 Credit Hours This course provides instruction on the fundamentals concepts of industrial pumps and piping systems. Topics include: pump identification, pump operation, installation, maintenance and troubleshooting, piping systems and installation of piping systems.
