Programmable Control Technician I (470303)  Technical Certificate of Credit

Campus Locations: Tifton

The Programmable Controller Technician I Technical Certificate of Credit offers specialized training in programmable controllers. Topics include motor control fundamentals, and instruction in basic and advanced PLCs.

Length of Program: Two (2) Semesters

Student Learning Outcomes:
• Students will identify and troubleshoot three-phase motor windings.

Entrance Date: Beginning of each semester.

Entrance Requirements: Refer to Admission criteria. Click for Entrance Score Requirements.

Age: Applicant must be 16 years of age or older.

Education: An applicant must be a high school graduate or the equivalent (GED). College transcripts will be evaluated on an individual basis.

Advisor: A Program Advisor should be consulted prior to enrolling in any course. An advisor will be assigned by admissions.

Program Final Exit Point: Programmable Control Technician I, Technical Certificate of Credit.

Credits Required for Graduation: 15 minimum semester hour credits required for graduation.

Note: Credits from this program may be applied to a degree or a diploma program.

4.00 Credit Hours NOTE: Students enrolled in this course are required to complete the entry level occupational work ethics course during the same term. This course introduces the fundamental concepts, principles, and devices involved in industrial motor controls,theories and applications of single and three-phase motors, wiring motor control circuits, and magnetic starters and braking. Topics include, but are not limited to, motor theory and operating principles, control devices, symbols and schematic diagrams, NEMA standards, Article 430 NEC and preventative maintenance and troubleshooting.

4.00 Credit Hours This course introduces the operational theory, systems terminology, PLC installation, and programming procedures for Programmable Logic Controllers. Emphasis is placed on PLC programming, connections, installation, and start-up procedures. Other topics include timers and counters, relay logic instructions, and hardware and software applications.

4.00 Credit Hours NOTE: Students enrolled in this course are required to complete the capstone level occupational work ethics course during the same term. This course provides for hands on development of operational skills in the maintenance and troubleshooting of industrial control systems and automated equipment. Topics include data manipulation, math instructions, introduction to HMI, analog control, and troubleshooting discrete IO devices.
